Tristan working at a school means he brings home a variety of germs every day, so I try to make decently balanced meals on a daily basis to keep us healthy. And we've been doing a pretty damn good job of not getting sick! Neither one of us has gotten a cold for over a year!
When it seems like friends or coworkers are getting sick, I like to make a giant mugful of golden milk as a snack.

Golden milk, or turmeric milk, is an Indian drink that's become increasingly popular because it's full of antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties. It seems like it's traditionally made with cow's milk, but we're pretty much dairy free in our home. I combine canned coconut milk and almond milk, but I think any milk would work as long as it's fatty.
Because it's high in fat, it's a great pick me up in the afternoon. You know, when you're in need of something around 4 pm to keep you going until dinner... and you're too lazy to go out so you end up eating random things you have in your kitchen?
If you've never had golden milk before, it's creamy, warm, and just a tad spicy. I sweeten it with raw honey or coconut sugar but I would say it's both savory and sweet. Kind of like a mildly sweet Indian curry in drink form. Although, that doesn't make it sound appetizing at all, does it haha. But really, just

Golden Milk
Ingredients
- ¾ cup full fat coconut milk (from a can)
- ¾ cup water
- 1 ½ cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 ½ teaspoon ground turmeric
- ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon raw honey (coconut sugar works well too)
Instructions
- Put everything into a pot and heat over medium heat while constantly whisking for 3-4min.
- Pour the hot golden milk into two big mugs and enjoy.
